this is a request for help.
Azawakh Breeder's home burns down
David Moore, an Azawakh breeder in Toccoa, GA just lost his home and 9 of his dogs to fire. I don't know alot of the details, but he is currently living on his property in a one man tent, and is trying to care for the dogs that survived, including a bitch due to whelp soon.
He only lives 30 min from me, though I've not met him before. I've heard alot of nice things about him, and some of you may remember that he is the breeder that Becky (GoGreyhound) has often talked about, wanting to get an Azawakh pup from him.
I want to help, and I think we as a community are in a good place to arrange help with the specialty coming up soon. I will be manning the catalog table and will also be camping on the grounds. I will collect anything that people would be willing to donate for him and will personally deliver it all to his home on Saturday the 27th.
I hope that we can get a pretty good sized delivery together to help out this poor fellow dog lover in need.
Who's with me??
Here is an email with more information about David's tragedy which includes his shipping information should anyone wish to send something to him directly:

Hi all,
I was both prepared and not prepared for what I saw. The old part of the house is completely gone. Chimney and a few of the corner supports are about all that are left and some of the beams from the front room are charred black and mostly gone but not burnt through.
The addition is still somewhat intact as in 3 of 4 walls are still up and parts of the roof. The addition is where most of the dogs that were killed where unable to get out and so died. For me personally David's house represented peaceful fun times when he and I (and sometimes many of you) had lunch or dinner in the kitchen and ate his wonderful cooking. It was a place I loved and I couldn't move for a minute when I saw it as it is now.
The fencing is still bad. Dogs getting out everywhere. We need a group of local people to help with this. Saturday would be best for David and I think if a group of us focused and worked on it as a team it would be done in 3-4 hours. What needs to be done is holes repaired, Weak areas repaired and one area still needs to be fenced off. The areas that need fencing work are around and behind the new section where the dogs died. He simply can't bear to go over there so we have to do it for him. So please-any local folks can you help me on Saturday get this finished for him? I think it would bring him great peace of mind and also allow him to leave to get a shower, go to work, be off the property which he needs to be able to do. Bring your friends and neighbors-anyone.
Now onto David's single request. He has gotten money and gifts from people in sighthounds most of whom he does not know. He is deeply touched and has no way to thank them. For example while we were there a box came with dog blankets from a woman who must be on one of the lists who has a single greyhound and Saluki. So he asked if Ariane or Stephanie would put something on Saluki Friends and Sylvia if you would do the same on Saluki L and I will suck it up and post it to the Azawakh lists .
He asked that it say he has gotten the many donations of gift cards, money and dog items and he is deeply humbled and touched and grateful. Since he has no computer and is living in chaos he has no way to thank people personally so he has asked us, his friends, to do it for him.
I would also like to ask y'all to add to these emails that MORE IS NEEDED.
He is living in a one man tent with a card table next to it.
So here is what is needed:
Money
Gift cards to Wal Mart, Home Depot etc
Dog Food -he fed a the diet that is traditional to the Azawakh in the Sahel
of millet with raw meat, dairy etc but he has no way to cook millet and no
way to keep meat cold so he needs bags and bags of dog food.
Dog bedding
Dog beds
Dog bowls
Clothes for himself (jeans size is 34 x 30, shirt size large or extra large)
A computer
A boom box and some CDs
A camp stove or something to cook on
Non perishable food like peanut butter etc
Things to drink besides water like Gatorade
Bedding
Pans
Utensils
Coolers that have a long cooling life like the 5 day coolers
Tarps
Plywood and tools
Buckets
Extension leads
Straw, straw and more straw. Shavings aren't working-they are making the dogs itch
He has a bitch that is about to whelp so he needs stuff for a whelping box and puppy supplies
He needs housing- a motor home or trailer that someone could donate or lend.
You name it-there are a million things I have not mentioned.
Frank and I took a bunch of stuff up today including stuff Marlys bought for him. We also gave him $350.00 in home depot gift cards which we had gotten from my family as wedding gifts. We discussed it and agreed that the best thing we could do for him and for us was to re gift those to him. He is good at deflecting and saying he does not need anything. It is not true. If you are local, take it. If you are not local send it and if those of you posting his thanks on the lists could tell people that more is needed I would be grateful.
He is still getting mail and his mailing address for shipping is
3500 Williams Bridge Road - Toccoa, GA 30577 USA
email is davidmoore@azawakh.com
Website is http://www.azawakh.com/
Pay pal can also be used and locally in the USA checks can be sent.
Anyone who can go on Saturday and help with fencing or has fencing we can use, please let me know.

I haven't been able to reach David by phone yet, but I spoke briefly with Alison Tyler tonight...she was just leaving David after having spent the day helping him repair his fencing. She said he's in pretty bad shape, very shaken up and devastated by his loss. But he's hanging in there and trying to pull everything back together. The fire started when he was at work, and because his home was so rustic (see the photo below), there really wasn't much that could be done, so it was a total loss. He literally has nothing but the clothes he was wearing at the time. I'm very worried about him...he's been having a really bad time this year.
The horses and chickens are all apparently okay. The dogs he lost were most of his "foundation stock," the older dogs that he kept in a separate area because they sometimes find all the pups tiring. The only ones of the nine dogs killed that Alison could remember for sure are Kusaylah (his biggest male and a proven sire), Chenna, Iman and Showq. I'm afraid that my favorite female, Tittawen, might have been among the casualties as well, but I won't know for sure until I speak with David. I say this because Alison told me that he lost one of his pregnant females and her unborn litter, but she knows that Tiwul, who is due to whelp at any time, survived. The other females he was supposed to breed are Tittawen and Semteende, so one or both of them must have perished. This is a devastating loss to the breed's gene pool for such a rare breed.
I'm putting toegther a food and toiletries package for David and the dogs, and I'm going to send him some money by PayPal when I get my check on Wednesday...it's not much, but I want to try to do something...wish I lived closer to him so I could do more to help him out immediately. If anyone else is interested in sending David something by PayPal, please send me a PM and I'll give you the emaill address to send it to--he lost his computer in the fire, so it has to go to one of his relatives instead. Even if it's just $5 or $10, it will be a help to him during this difficult time.
For those of you who don't know him, here's a picture of David from happier times...he's really a great guy and has been so patient with and kind to me! If you can't help out any other way, please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. Thanks!
